What do I do before coming to Sydney?
After obtaining your visa, you are encouraged to notify your arrival to the Malaysian Students Department (MSD) Sydney. It is advisable that you apply for an accommodation in Malaysia Hall either permanently for a semester or temporarily while looking for a house to rent.
You can also inform the PPMS Student Welfare Director or anyone in the PPMS Committee concerning your arrival in Sydney in case you need any help or someone to pick you up from the airport. It will cost you about AUD30 by taxi or AUD7 by bus to get to Malaysia Hall from the airport.

What do I do when I reached Sydney?
After successively securing an accommodation you are recommended to:
1. Notify your arrival to Malaysian Students Department (MSD).
2. Register yourself in your particular university and make your Student ID.
3. Open an Australian bank account. You can open your Australian bank account as soon as you register and get your Student ID. Some of the main banks in Australia are ANZ Bank and Commonwealth Bank. In your application form, you can use the Malaysia Hall address as your temporary address.
4. Find a place to rent. This applies to those who wish to live outside.
5. Get your own mobile phone number. Major mobile phone operators include Vodafone, 3, and Optus.
Can I drive with my Malaysian driver’s license in Australia?
A student is permitted to drive in Australia for 3 months after the date of your arrival using the Malaysian driver’s license. After that, student must apply for a converted license where your original Malaysian driver’s license will be translated to English.
Am I able to work in Australia?
Yes. Under a student visa, students are permitted to work with a maximum of 20 hours per week. A student must first apply for a work permit. The work permit form is available at each university’s international offices. Students can then proceed to the Immigration office to logde an application or do it online here.
